Angles we were interested in, Some we used.

Point of veiw shot

This really grabbed our attention as it keeps the identity of the person whose point of veiw it is, minimal allowing us to keep the 'Villain' a mystery untill the very end! It also allowed us to create the Effect of someone being watched. To add to this shot we used a Hand held camera, Even tho this makes the shot quite shaky it also adds realism from the persons eyes.

Makeup + Other inspirations for our thriller

Props? settings? Visual effects?

As we wanted to not only create good shots, but produce good visual images which seemed almost realistic, we practised different makeup looks such as creating Injuries; Making fake blood , bruises and the "Dead" look.

We also wanted to try different surroundings, which we thought would create an edgy and mysterious effect.

Here are some shots we might feature in our thriller production which we took ourselves,

we also created the set arround it , and the makeup.

Wounds seen on the right of the screen were made by :

Applying Black liquid eyeliner to the hair line and eye brow hair, then smudge a metallic red lipgloss to make it a dark red colour this is the base. Then use chunks of a pink lipstick to stick over the base to create a chunky fleshy look on the skin, Then use a bright red face paint and mix it with water to make it less bright. We then used that as the blood running down the face to make it more realistic.
The model of the photo's; A volunteer called Abi

Surroundings:

This photo shows a very run down wall, and slabs of wood, and waste. This gives an edgy look, which we felt fit in with our thriller. we thought it looked almost like a construction site, which we then decided one of the killings would take place.

Also for our Blog we looked at Movies like The butterfly effect, Pulp Fiction and Citizen Kane which are all examples of films that start from the ending. this gives are thriller a more suspenseful and mystery feel to it, but still maintains it dark and gritty feel like Seven which we watched a number of times to catch that sociopathical look the director was going for.

We used a variety of cuts such as the quick cut to give a sense of speed to our opening sequence. We also used the shaky cam effect to give our thriller a more realistic feel. plus we used a variety of shots such at the first person view, High angle, Low angle which are all conventions of a thriller.

For our music we looked alot of music from thrillers like the bourne ultimatum where they used fast edgy music to keep up with the fast paced action, but we also looked the music for seven which was slow and gritty which made the thriller more dark d suspenseful.

Thriller Ideas

Ideas?

As individuals we all had ideas which we thought , "Wow", but as a group you realise that you have to work as a team, and each one of you have to have an input.

Schizophrenia, was one of our Big ideas and allowed a motive for the ''killer'', which could be hid from the audience untill the end, of even be left as a cliff hanger. We wanted to give small clues throughout. This was featured in a series of the Soap "Hollyoaks" and was very interesting and we thought would be perfect for a thriller.

We also took Inspiration from "The Sixth sense", which allowed the audience to be fooled by the camera angles by thinking the character was real, when in actual fact he was ghost.

Thriller Research:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thriller_(genre)

Words Relative to Thrillers

  1. SUSPENCE

  2. MYSTERIOUS TWISTS OF THE STORY LINE

  3. CLIFFHANGERS

  4. FAST PACING WITH FREQUENT ACTION

  5. PSYCHOLOGICALLY INDEPTH

  6. VILLAINS & HEROES

We reasearched many films for inspiration towards our very own ideas.

Jekyll and Hyde is a very famous thriller, Where a man called Jekyll turns into another personality known as hyde. This is a mutiple personality disorder. He could not fully control his other personality; Evil, cruel and violent which was very different from his natural one.

We also looked at the "Knowing"

Featuring Nicholas Cage, a very well known american actor.
The future devastations that occur in the world are dates all written on a peice of paper by a young insane girl who claims to hear voices. It is then put in a capsule in the ground to later be dug up by a new generation. When dug up the farther of the young boy who receives it is curious and trys to find out what all the dates mean. later realising they are all key dates of world devastations, some which havnt occured yet. He then goes out of his way to prove his theory, and trys to prevent people being in the zone where the incidents will occur.

Preliminary Task:
Inspirational shots.

Shot reverse shot. Will show the point of veiw from both speakers; or will show expressions of both speakers when talking to one another: Example: (The featured Picture

180 Degree rule

Two characters in the scene should always have the same left/ right relationship.

Zooming:
This allows you to focus on something in particular, such as someones face.
It allows a clearer view of something from a distance. There is also Extreme zoom, where you can depict shots of features, such as eyes, or a screw in the wall. Zoom's can cause a mysterious effect as it can allow small clues of someones identity without allowing the audience to know who the person is, causing suspence.
Long shot:
This was a very inspirational shot, as it allows you to see the full picture. It allows the audience to see more, keeping their concentration, as there is more to focus on. It can give you an image of something happening, and where its happening.
